4 star cost - Two independent sources
What it is
A four-star spear elite and the core of any defence. With circle formation up it is very hard for conventional units to break, which makes it the most targeted unit in the game and the one that most tests your loadout.
How to use it
Open the formation when holding a point and do not chase outside it. Its weaknesses are break-shield damage (Mace, Halberdier), Samurai and ranged pressure, and it loses much of its value once the formation is scattered.
Matchups
A Spartan with circle formation up is very hard to break frontally. The answer is to scatter the formation first, or to break through it with block damage and Samurai.
What creators say
A stack of Spartans needs Mace plus a charge, Samurai or Halberdier to break. Berserker should not fight a Spartan head-on.
